Before anyone born since January 1, 1972 is able to obtain their first hunting license in the State of Washington, they are required to successfully complete hunter education training. The exception to this rule is if you've completed hunter education in another state.
CCGC supports the various groups providing instructor-led hunter education in Clark and surrounding counties. Classes included here are scheduled by groups authorized by WDFW and that partner with CCGC for the field and range portion of the class.
You have four (4) ways to obtain the training required to secure a Washington hunting license:
Traditional Class
Formal classes taught by one or more instructors. These include classroom & field exercises and includes live firing. (Firearms and ammunition are provided by those conducting the class.) Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife strongly encourages this type of training.
Paradigm Shift
A compressed class that places the entire burden of the class on each student. This is only recommended for adults.
Student Jamboree
An intensive 3-day class held in a camp-like atmosphere.
Home Study
Using the Internet and materials found on the WDFW Hunter Education web site, students may study the materials and take the required written tests on-line. This training method does not provide you the opportunity to interact with or receive support from qualified instructors. Also, students are required to locate, schedule and pass a field exam at a qualified shooting range prior to being able to receive their Hunter Education Certificate of Completion.
